If you need individual or family health insurance for 2027, ACA Open Enrollment begins November 1, 2026. During Open Enrollment, you can enroll in a Marketplace health insurance plan, change plans, or renew your current coverage. For most people using HealthCare.gov, the key dates are:

  • November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment begins

  • December 15, 2026: Enroll by this date for coverage starting January 1

  • January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends

  • February 1, 2027: Coverage generally begins if you enroll after December 15

Some states run their own Marketplace and may use different deadlines.

Who Should Review ACA Coverage?

ACA Marketplace plans may be worth reviewing if you are:

Self-employed, losing employer coverage, turning 26 and leaving a parent's plan, retiring before Medicare, uninsured, or already enrolled in an ACA plan.

Even if you like your current plan, it is smart to review it each year. Premiums, deductibles, doctor networks, prescription coverage, and other benefits can change.

Don't Look at Premium Alone

The lowest monthly premium is not always the lowest-cost plan overall. When comparing 2027 Marketplace plans, look at your: Monthly premium, deductible, copays, prescriptions, doctor network, and out-of-pocket maximum.

The right plan depends on how you expect to use your health insurance.

Could You Qualify for Savings?

Many Marketplace customers qualify for financial assistance that lowers their monthly premium. Eligibility generally depends on your household size and expected household income for 2027. If your income changes during the year, it is important to update your Marketplace information.

Check Your Doctors and Prescriptions

Before choosing a plan, make sure your doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions are covered. Two plans from the same insurance company can have different provider networks and drug coverage, so check the specific plan before enrolling.

What If You Miss Open Enrollment?

After Open Enrollment ends, you usually need a qualifying life event to enroll through a Special Enrollment Period. Examples can include losing health coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby.

How to Prepare

Before November 1, make a list of your doctors, prescriptions, expected household income, and what you liked or disliked about your current coverage. That makes comparing 2027 ACA health insurance plans much easier.
